Former Congress MP Premchand Guddu joins BJP

New Delhi: In a jolt to the Congress, former MP from Madhya Pradesh Premchand Guddu on Friday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here in the presence of union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Thawarchand Gehlot.

Guddu was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from Ujjain in 2009 but he lost the elections in 2014 against BJP’s Chintamani Malviya. Since then he was sidelined in the party.

“With the induction of Premchand Guddu into the BJP fold, the party will be strengthened,” Tomar told reporters after Guddu formally joined the party.

BJP General Secretary Kailsh Vijayvargiya was also present on the occasion.

Guddu joined the BJP as the campaigning for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls is on. The BJP on Friday also released the first list of its 177 candidates for the November 28 Assembly polls.

There are 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, where the saffron party has been in power for three consecutive terms.
