Former chief secretary may take on Buddhadeb in polls

Kolkata, March 12: Former West Bengal chief secretary Manish Gupta is likely to be the Trinamool Congress candidate against Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in the coming assembly polls.

“I have given an application to be a Trinamool Congress candidate… I think I will contest from Jadavpore,” Gupta told mediapersons after meeting Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee at her residence in South Kolkata’s Kalighat Saturday.

Bhattacharjee has won five times consecutively since 1987 from Jadavpore in South 24 Parganas district.
