Hyderabad, September 08: Former Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy today expressed support to Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to succeed his father late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy as the chief minister of the state.
“The general perception among the people in Andhra Pradesh is that Y S Jagan can fill the void and with the support of senior leaders and blessing of the high command will be able to steer the party and the Government out of the present desolation,” he said in a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
“His (Jagan) positive approach, youthfulness and the legacy of his father will, undoubtedly, be a great asset to the party and the government,” he said.
“As a dedicated soldier of the Congress party, I have no hesitation to say that Y S Jagan will be acceptable to most of the senior leaders of the party in the state, and would act as a catalyst amongst the various sections of the Congress party,” Reddy said.
He requested Gandhi to consider the candidature of Y S Jagan “for the benefit of the party and for the advantage to the state”.
Suresh Reddy, who worked as a legislator for two decades and won laurels for his functioning as Speaker, lost the recent assembly elections.
