Former ameer JIH, Maulana Abdul Haq Ansari, passes away

Former Ameer of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maulana Abdul Haq Ansari, passed away on Wednesday due to major heart attack. He had recently returned from America. He became member of Jamaat-e-Islami in 1952.

Born on September 1, 1931 at Tamkohi, Deoaria, at Uttar Pradesh, Ansari Studied Arabic, Philosophy and history and obtained his B.A from Aligarh Muslim University, in 1957. He pursued higher studies in philosophy and obtained M.A. (Philosophy) from Aligarh Muslim University in 1959. He did his Ph.D. (Philosophy) from Aligarh Muslim University in 1962. He also obtained a Masters Degree, M.T.S. (Comparative Religion and Theology), from Harvard University in United States of America in 1972. He was also the Chancellor of Jamia Islamia (Islamic university), Shantapuram, Kerala (India).

Maulana also did Alim course from Darsgah Islami, Rampur. He also compiled several books on spirituality and shariah. Many of his books have also been published on varied subjects. He undertook many research works at Centre for Academic Research, Imam Muhammad b. Saud Islamic University in Riyadh. He had been the member of Markazi Majlis-e-Shura for years. He was elected as president Jamat-e-Islami Hind in 2003 for a period of four years.

Dr. Ansari was considered as one of the greatest Islamic thinkers of modern times. His masterpiece ‘Learning the Language of Quran’ is considered as one of the best English guides for the beginners of Qur’anic studies.

Maulana Abdul Haq Ansari was 81. He will be buried in his native town today.

Mr. Mohammed Khaja Arifuddin city president Jamat-e-Islami Hind, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa has expressed deep grief over the sad demise of Maulana Abdul Haq Ansari.
