Johannesburg, Aug.16 : Indian star golfer Anirban Lahiri is primed to secure a spot on the International team to face United States at the Presidents Cup, after displaying a strong performance in the ongoing US PGA Championship.
The 28-year-old propelled himself into the title contention as he tied for eighth on nine-under 207, six shots behind leader Jason Day of Australia after the third round of this year’s final major in Whistling Straits.
Lahiri, who is in line to become the first Indian to win a Major, said that playing at the Presidents Cup would mean the world to him, Sport24 reported.
Lahiri, who had won the Malaysian Open and Indian Open earlier this year, further said that it would be a different kind of thrill when he wouldn’t play for himself.
The Bengaluru-based player would be an automatic selection for the Internationals team to take defending champions, the United States, in Incheon, South Korea from Oct 8-11. (ANI)
