Forest dept files FIR against Murugan’s wife

Shimoga, April 02:The forest department today filed an FIR against the wife of the former Superintendent of Police of this district as the original licence of the Rs three lakh worth timber seized from his house in a recent raid was in her name, official sources said.

The FIR has been filed for illegal storage of timber under Sections 144 and 145 of the Forest Act, they said.

During the raid Lokyukta police found 126 cubic feet of timber worth stored without a licence, to be used for construction of S P Murugan’s house at his native place of Madurai in Tamil Nadu.

In another development Karnataka forest Minister C H Vijayashankar, speaking reporters in Bangalore said action would be taken against Murugan, now IGP, Corps of Detectives (COD) if he has violated rules in storing timber.

Officials of the forest department have been studying the issue, he said.
