Thiruvananthapuram, April 16: Senior IPS officer Tomin J Thachankary, who is facing charges of making foreign trip without prior permission, was today removed from his post based on a departmental probe.
The IG (Kannur range), who had often courted controversy, has not been given any fresh posting for the time being, according to Home Department sources here.
IG (DCRB) Sudesh Kumar had been given charge of the Kannur Range in place of Thachankary, the sources said.
The action against the officer came close on the heels of Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan stating that the government would take immediate action against him based on the reports submitted by DGP Jacob Punnose and ADGP Sibi Mathew.
Achuthanandan had last week directed the ADGP to inquire whether the officer had violated service rules by going to Gulf countries without prior permission.
