Alappuzha, August 03: A team of women of differentnationalities residing in United Arab Emirates would joinforces with the Alleppey Ladies Boat Club team here to takepart in the famous Nehru trophy boat race on August 8.
Dressed in traditional sarees and using paddles made ofcoconut bark to power their snake boat along, the team willcover a race distance of 750 metres in the Punnamada lake,District Collector and organising committee convenor, MiniAntony, told reporters here today.
The team, headed by Julie Lewis, would start practicewith the local team tomorrow to put their new boat `Devas’ totest, she said.
The team has been training in Dubai on ‘Dragon boats.
