Jamshedpur, April 21: In less than 24-hour after destroying the transit camp of the extremists in the Rajabasa village in Ghatshila sub-division, the security forces engaged in the anti Maoist operation has intensified its campaign.
According to the information, the police which is running a search operation in the forest cover of the Gurabanda area in about five-km radius, is likely to unearth more number of bombs and ammunitions from the site in the next few days.
“The local police jointly with the CRPF are camping in the area and also conducting search operation sensing potential threat to the proposed polling in the area,” said a senior administration officer of the East Singhbhum.
The border regional committee (BRC) of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit is influential in the said area and police are not taking any chance during West Bengal polls.
“The ongoing operation is likely to see few arrests of the naxalites too, as extensive search operation and tight security arrangements are preventing the rebels from slipping into the Bengal border,” said a source closely involved in the police operation.
Remarkably, the East Singhbhum administration revised its security measures after district vigilance department reported possible intruding of the rebels into the district in the wake of massive search operation launched by the Bengal police to track down the banned red army guerrillas
Along with the police a quick response team of the CRPF with anti landmine vehicle has been put on duty jointly with the district police since Monday morning.
The security forces engaged in the anti Maoist operation in the district on Monday destroyed the transit camp of the extremists and recovered fire arms and explosives in the encounter that lasted for more than an hour in the Rajabasa village under Gurabanda police station’s jurisdiction in Ghatshila sub division of the district.
The security forces that include the CRPF, JAP, Jharkhand Jaguar and local police were on the routine long range patrolling (LRP) when they confronted a gang of about a dozen suspected extremists at the transit camp in Rajabasa village.
In the last few days anti insurgency operation in the Ghatshila sub division has been intensified following intelligence reports that suggest rebels are camping in the pockets of Dampara and Dhalbhumgarh areas in the wake of intensive policing in the neighbouring Bengal in the wake of ongoing Assembly elections.
The administration has increased police patrolling on the bordering areas connecting to West Bengal and has also deployed adequate number of paramilitary personnel on areas potential to rebels attack.
