Footpath Encroachment removal drive continues in City

Hyderabad: Viswajeet Kampati, Director, Vigilance & Enforcement said that so far 15,000 unauthorized encroachments have been removed in the city. Today from Ramanthapur to street No. 8 Habsiguda, 700 encroachments were removed. Total eight drives have been conducted so far, 15,400 encroachments removed. Some of the vendors have encroached and reoccupied the place again and they have also been removed and stern action has been taken against them, even penalties have been imposed, around 160 shops and establishments have been seized.

These drives have been taken up for the convenience of the citizens Right To Walk slogan. In starting the drives, they received lot of encouragement from the citizens and now people are also coming forward to help to remove the encroachments on footpaths etc. Even people are requesting us to come to their streets to remove encroachments which is a very good sign, said the Director.

While on drive, it has been observed that people are voluntarily removing the encroachments themselves duly realizing their fault, and it is an encouragement to the Department and behavioral change of the citizens. He was feeling proud about this type of happenings. These drives will be taken up regularly on every Saturday, and if anybody found again encroaching the same places, it will be viewed very seriously, he said
People are requesting the department to construct the footpaths immediately after the removal and the officials are taking up construction of footpaths on war footing basis in coordination with HMR, HRDCL.

The Director said that before taking up the drives with the help of the Town Planning officials, marking is being done for removal and taking the suggestions from the effected people problems while removing the encroachments. It has been assessed that approximately around two and half lakhs encroachments are there in GHMC limits out of which already 15000+ have been removed so far and the department will be on the job to remove all of them in a phased manner, Director added.
A meeting under the Chairmanship of Director General of Fire Services has been conducted today and discussions were held on how to tackle the emergency situations during fire incidents. Keeping in view of the incident that occurred at Exhibition grounds and also for coming summer GHMC, HMWS&SB, Fire and Police Department officials have attended the meeting to have a proper coordination while taking up the rescue measures.
