Lucknow: Violence in UP seems to be increasing with muscle power in the state. Recently seven members of the Uttar Pradesh football team were injured on the train after unidentified assailants on board attacked them.
The incident took place in Deoria district on board in Gwalior-Barauni Express train near Bhatparani railway station said the Police.
The team was returning from Bihar after playing the state tournament in Samastipur.
Seven footballers including their Coach Vinay Gopal Srivastava were injured in the attack.
The injured players were rushed to a hospital in Deoria district hospital.
According to the Police the incident took place after few miscreants forcefully tried to enter the reserved coaches.
The youth has reportedly pulled the chain to let in his friends into the compartment. They attacked the footballers with sticks, said the officer.
Srivastava and Anshuman Soni are also in serious condition due to injury.Others among injured players are Abhishek Prajapati, Bharti Gupta, Rajeev Sharma and two others.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel said a case has been lodged against unidentified persons. They were trying to arrest them, based on the leads given by the footballers.
