Barcelona: Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff has died of cancer, his official website announced on Thursday.
“On March 24, 2016 Johan Cruyff (68) died peacefully in Barcelona, surrounded by his family after a hard fought battle with cancer. It’s with great sadness that we ask you to respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief,” said a statement on worldofjohancruyff.com.
The three-time Ballon d Or’ winner was ill since October.
As a player he won three back-to-back European silverwares with Ajax. He also played for Spanish giants Barcelona and later coached the Catalan outfit.
