Hyderabad, March 20: In the wake of frequent alerts from various Government agencies indicating threats to important dams, reservoirs and other irrigation projects in the State from extremists and terrorists, a high-level committee headed by Chief Secretary SV Prasad has been constituted today to come up with guidelines to provide foolproof security cover to irrigation projects.
The committee will prepare guidelines for security measures to be taken up at all irrigation projects. According to the officials, a comprehensive security cover will be provided to various important irrigation projects in the State as per the inputs given by various agencies. The committee will prepare necessary guidelines on security measures in consultation with the departments and agencies concerned.
It will examine the possible security cover to be provided at the irrigation projects which includes both technical and human protection apart from the budget and the scale of security.
The committee will work in association with the Irrigation and Command Area Development (I&CAD) Department. It will also deal with the court cases and legal issues arising in this connection.
The members of the Committee include: Principal Secretaries to the departments of I&CAD (Projects), Home, Information Technology and Communication departments, and the Secretary (W&P) for Finance department.
While the Director General of Police (Special Protection) and Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) will represent the security agencies, the Engineer-in-Chief (AW) of I&CAD department will be the member convener.
