Hyderabad, December 2: Masjid Hayat Bakshi Begum has the privilege to be the most beautiful and the magnificent among the tombs and the mosques constructed from the early days of Sultan Quli Qutub Shah’s period i.e. from 1518 to the last period of Qutub Shahi regime i.e. till Aurangzeb Aalamgeer laid a siege to Golconda for the second time. It is the finest piece of architecture with its beautiful carvings and well-shaped minarets. The azure coloured floral design on its roof looks so fresh as if someone has painted it just the day before. The architect has done floral patterns on embellishments on the outer arches with mortar.
This is the biggest and best mosque of Qutub Shahi tombs. Its width is 76 feet and length is 51 feet. The department of archeology has named it as The Great Mosque. There is no need of prayer mat in the mosque since the floor has been designed in such an unparallel pattern that it gives the look of prayer mats. Infact we can’t mention the beauty of this mosque in a piece of writing. A security guard of department of archeology is always on the guard at the mosque. The mosque is in neat and clean condition. If anyone has not seen this mosque he has seen nothing. This mosque is opposite to the tomb of Hayat Bakshi Begum.
