Food and Civil Supply Dept conducts raids to check hoarding

Ahmedabad, August 26: In a bid to curb hoarding and black marketing of essential commodities, State Food and Civil Supply department conducted raids across Gujarat and seized goods worth several crores of rupees in last one month, an official statement said here today.

Over 174 commercial establishments were raided between August 1 to 24, and over 10,197 litres of kerosene, 3,68,955 kilogram of sugar and 3,51,706 kilogram of grain and pulses were seized, official statement said.

During the raids 45 kerosene shops, 75 establishments of sugar traders and 55 premises of grain and pulse dealers were inspected, it added.

The department seized sugar worth Rs 99.84 lakhs, grain and pulses whose market value is estimated to be Rs 1.77 crore, and kerosene worth Rs 98,163, official statement said.
