Chief Secretary SP Singh today appealed to road users in the State to observe Accident Free Day on January 31 by strictly following traffic rules and taking all precautions to avoid road accidents.
Talking to mediapersons here on Saturday, the Chief Secretary observed that road safety has become a matter of serious concern to mankind. Every year the country was losing 1.5 lakh precious human lives and over 7,000 people were dying in the State due to fatal road accidents at the rate of 20 persons every day. He also noted that it was disheartening that pedestrians and two-wheeler users accounted for 50% of total deaths and are in the age groups of 18 to 35 years.
