Fog engulfs Punjab, Haryana, minimum temperature rises

Chandigarh, January 25: Several areas of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh remained engulfed with dense fog today even as the minimum temperature in the region rose by three degrees Celsius.

The visibility due to dense fog was upto 800 metres in several parts of Punjab and Haryana, the Met Department said here.

Several trains bound for Amritsar, Pathankot, Bathinda, Chandigarh and Kalka in the region were hours behind schedule, whereas the traffic on the national and state highways moved at a slow pace due to poor visibility.

Some airlines, including Jet and Kingfisher, resumed its services as the flights took off and arrived at the Chandigarh airport, officials said.

However, the minimum temperature hovered between three degrees Celsius above normal to four notches below normal in the region.

Amritsar in Punjab was the coldest with a low of -0.4 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal.
