FMs to open Iran-Turkey border crossing

Ankara, April 14: The foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan will attend the opening ceremony of a border crossing between the Iranian West Azarbaijan province and Turkey’s Van province.

Iranian MP Seyyed Movayyed Hosseini Sadr announced the news on Wednesday, noting that the official inauguration of the Razi-Kapikoy border crossing on April 16 will help develop economic cooperation among the three neighboring states, IRIB reported.

“This border has an important role in the expansion of economic transaction between Iran and Turkey,” he said.

The border checkpoint is the third border crossing between Iran’s West Azarbaijan and the Turkish Van province.

Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Umit Yardim on Wednesday put the value of trade between Iran and Turkey at above 11 billion dollars in the past year.

Yardim said that the two neighboring states plan to increase their trade volume to $15 billion by the end of 2011.
