Flood alert in Prakasam

Oongole, November 09: Prakasam District Collector, Kantilal Dande, today alerted the low-lying villages of Allaboinapadu, Ankireddypalem, Sitarampur, Kaluvakonda, Naidupuram and Rallapadu villages under Rallapadu project as the Rallapadu project has been receiving heavy inflows due to incessant rain in the neighbouring Nellore district.

The officials said the Rallapadu project has received 1,000 cusecs and the water level stood at 19 feet.

Reports said the Gandipalem project, near Udayagiri, in Nellore district, is also receiving heavy inflows due to rain. Normal rainfall was received at several places and farmers heaved a sigh of relief in the hope of saving their crops. Several farmers said the present rainfall would save the standing crops in 2.43 lakh hectares in the present Rabi season. Irrigation officials opened two gates of the Gundlakamma project and released 550 cusecs of water as the project has been receiving heavy inflows due to rain.

Prakasam district received 65.3 mm rainfall today and the highest rainfall of 118.8 mm was recorded in Gudluru mandal.

In Krishna district, light showers occurred at several places. No cyclone alert has been issued.

However, District Collector, Peeyush Kumar alerted MROs and VDOs to keep a watch in the coastal region.
