Fleeing hotel staff held for stealing money

Mumbai, August 26: Railway police today arrested a hotel employee, about to leave the city, from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) for allegedly stealing over Rs9,000 cash and mobile phones of his colleagues.

The manager of Hotel Spice Court at Mira Road, Alexander alerted the railway police about Shakir Ali Ansari 21, who was to leave by Lucknow bound Pushpak Express this morning with the cash and phones.

“Ansari was arrested by the railway police with Rs9000 cash, five mobile phones and a wrist watch,” said senior police inspector Dilip Mane of CST railway police station. Ansari was produced before CST railway court which remanded him to police custody till Wednesday.

Ansari was working in the hotel for the past one-and-a-half years and wanted to go to his native place in Hariyarpur near Lucknow. After getting the ticket on Monday, Ansari borrowed five mobile phones from his colleagues in the hotel on the pretext of calling his native place and also stole cash over Rs9,000 and a wrist watch of a hotel employee before leaving the hotel at around 3 pm.

The five employees complained to Alexander about Ansari not returning their mobile phones. The manager was also shocked to learn that cash and wrist watch of hotel employees were missing and Ansari left without informing anybody.
