Jharkhand, August 24: Flames were spotted from an abandoned coal mine in the Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) area of Bokaro for the past few days posing danger to road and train routes, the second such fire in the coal-belt area of Jharkhand.
The underground fire had been raging for four/five months in the CCL command area and the flames started a couple of days ago, Superintendent of Police Laxman Prasad Singh told newsmen here.
“We have sent a letter to the CCL management drawing their attention to the possible danger from the flames to Chandrapura-Phusro Road and Gomo-Barkakana rail route under the East-Central Railways,” he said.
When contacted, CCL’s Dhuri Project General Manager Uma Shankar Singh said the management was aware of the situation.
This is the second such incident as the underground fire at Kujju, also in the CCL’s command area, in Ramgarh district still rages on. A stretch of NH-33 has since been closed to traffic.
