Hyderabad, December 08: A solemn function was organised, to observe the Armed Forces Flag day, by the Department of Sainik Welfare, Government of Andhra Pradesh at Raj Bhavan on Monday.
War widows, battle-disabled soldiers, distinguished award winners from the State were honoured on this occasion.
This day is observed across the country to express solidarity and gratitude to Armed Forces and ex-servicemen. Governor N D Tiwari in his address, recalled the sacrifices made by the defence personnel during various wars that the country fought.
He appealed to all citizens to extend their support and help these servicemen and their widows
to settle in their villages and towns.
He further added that though a lot is being done for these servicemen, a lot more needs to be done. Brigadier (Retd) C S Vidyasagar, Director Sainik Welfare, informed that every non-gazetted officer in the State makes a voluntary contribution of Rs 20 per head to Flag Day Fund, which is in turn used for the welfare of ex-servicemen, widows and their dependents.
