Five US-led forces killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, July 05: At least five foreign soldiers have been killed in separate militant attacks in eastern and southern Afghanistan, amid escalating violence in the war-torn country.

The western military alliance said four foreign troops were killed in a roadside bomb explosion and a militant attack in Afghanistan’s east.

Another soldier was killed in an attack in the country’s south, NATO said.

NATO has not revealed any details about the nationalities of the slain soldiers. At least 289 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.

At least 2,570 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001, according to icasualties.

The security situation remains fragile in Afghanistan despite the presence of at least 150,000 US-led foreign forces in the country.

The increasing number of troop casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
