Kanpur: Five students of a government university were suspended from its hostel after clashes broke out between two groups of students over a money dispute.
Rahul Gautam and Shiv Kant were suspended for one year while Kaushlendra Singh, Krishan Kumar Singh and Mohit Kumar have been suspended for six months from the university hostel, PK Upadhayay, Dean of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology said.
A fine of Rs 10,000 each has also been imposed after a high-level meeting considering the issue, he said.
Clashes had broken out between two group of students in the university’s boys hostel on August 8. It was earlier believed that the students had clashed over an incident of ragging, however, a probe revealed that it was a matter of some money exchange, he said.
The students will remain under probation for a year. If any complaint is made against them in this period they will be expelled from the university, Upadhayay said.
