Five students arrested in Sonepat

Haryana, September 17: Police arrested five students in Sonepat, protesting against the government for not giving OBC status to Jats in Haryana.

According to police the students who were arrested on charges of causing violence have been sent to the district jail at Sonepat till September 20.

The students who are affiliated to the All-India Jat Swabhiman Sanghthan were identified as Ankit, Amarjit, Mukesh and Sandeep.

The agitating students assembled outside the Government post Graduate college at Gohana town, where they burnt tyres and blocked the Gohana-Jind road, police said.

They attempted to derail the Bhiwani bound Ekta Express but its driver foiled their attempt by applying brakes at the right time.

The situation is still tense and additional police has been summoned to maintain law and order in the district, they said.
