Five more police stations for Cyberabad

Hyderabad, January 02: Cyberabad police commissionerate will have five new police stations and 1,500 additional policemen in the new year.

With this, the number of police stations in Cyberabad will reach 40, including one woman police station while the total number of police personnel would be around 5,500. The new police stations, Kukatpally Housing Board Colony, Medipally, Chaitanyapuri, Karmanghat and Shivarampally, would be carved out of the existing Kukatpally, Uppal, Saroornagar, L.B. Nagar and Rajendranagar police stations respectively.

The new police stations and additional forces would help in better maintenance of law and order in Cyberabad that has nearly 70 lakh population, Cyberabad Police Commissioner S. Prabhakar Reddy told a press conference on Thursday. Explaining the crimes reported in Cyberabad in year 2009 and efforts made to detect them, Mr. Reddy said new gadgets called red-speed cameras were being acquired to rein in traffic rule violators.

The cameras, being installed as part of a pilot project at 20 centres, would capture information about the vehicles being driven rashly. The data would analyse information and automatically generate e-challans imposing fines. The Commissioner said the crime rate had marginally dipped in year 2009 compared to the previous year.

However, the graph of snatchings, cheatings and thefts of vehicles went upwards. The number of kidnap cases too has gone up. Nearly 150 cases of homicide, out of the 174 reported this year, were detected. However, some sensational killings — like that of a girl who was sexually assaulted and murdered in Rajendranager and that of a realtor found murdered in his house at Uppal — could not be solved for want of clues, he said.

A total of 1,651 persons were taken into preventive custody in connection with the 76 cases registered during the pro-Telangana agitation in Cyberabad area. Seventy more specific cases were registered in this regard.

Mr. Reddy said the Cyberabad police ensured peaceful conduct of several international events like 75th World Badminton Championships and World Newspaper Congress by making foolproof security arrangements.
