Five militants killed in Pakistan

Islamabad, November 21: At least five militants have been killed during a clash between their group and Pakistani security forces in the Swat Valley region of northwest Pakistan.

Pakistani officials told Press TV that the security forces engaged in a firefight with militants in the Totano Bandai area of Kabal tehsil on Saturday, killing five members of the pro-Taliban group and injuring several others.

The officials added that after the skirmish, police recovered weapons from the group.

In a separate incident, unknown gunmen kidnapped at least seven local tribesmen from Safi tehsil of Momand Agency.

According to the Pakistani officials, the tribesmen were taken to an unknown location.

Meanwhile, early on Sunday, militants bombed a state-run primary school in Khyber Agency in northwestern Pakistan.

Though the school building was completely demolished in the blast, no casualties were reported.

Pro-Taliban militants have so far destroyed hundreds of schools in various parts of Northwest Pakistan.

The Pakistani army has launched several operations in the restive Northwest in order to flush the militants out of its tribal areas.

Over the past three years, nearly 4,000 people have been killed in attacks and bombings across the country.
