Five members of Mirchi gang arrested

Ghaziabad: Five members of the Mirchi gang, known for their penchant to use chilli powder while committing crimes, have been arrested here and looted items, including a car and two country made pistols were recovered from their possession, police said today.

Based on a tip-off, Kavinagar police laid a dragnet and arrested the members of the Mirchi gang from Laal Kuan area, SP (City) Akash Tomar said, adding the gang is known for committing loot and dacoity in the districts of western Uttar Pradesh.

A car, four two-wheelers, two country made pistols and as many knives and 4 live cartridges were recovered from their possession, besides Rs 15 thousand in cash.

The arrested gang members have been identified as Akash Chowdhary, Sonu, Mohit, Akash Dabas and Shanu, the senior police official said, adding that with the arrest they have also cracked the Masuri town robbery case of April 17.

One member of the gang, identified as Deepak, is still at large while two other members Shrikant Bengali and Rahul are imprisoned in Dasna jail in a robbery case, Tomar added.
