Fatehgarh, August 26: Five members of a family, including two women, were killed in a road mishap on G.T. Road, Mandi Gobindgarh town of district Fatehgarh Sahib this morning.
According to information, Air Force officer Anil Gupta, a resident of Shiva Nager, Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir), was driving a car taking his family to Hardwar in Uttarakhand to perform the last rites of his father. Apart from 36-year-old Anil, his two brothers Parveen Gupta (34) and Sunil Gupta (38) with their mother Lal Gupta(62) and NRI sister Rachna Batra (40) were in the car. When the car reached near Punjab Patrol Pump, Mandi Gobindgarh around 0300 hrs, it rammed into a truck parked on the roadside. All the occupants of the car were killed on spot. After receiving the information, Mandi Gobindgarh police reached the spot and the police took them to Civil Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh. An eye-witness Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Amritsar, said the truck was parked on roadside without any indicator. ”The driver did not notice the truck parked on the roadside and rammed into it. Eyewitnesses told police that the car was moving at a very high speed. There is a probability that the driver slept for a moment and could not react immediately on seeing the truck,” said a police officer. The Mandi Gobindgarh police registered a case against the truck driver under various sections of the IPC. Rachna Batra was a doctor in Australia and she had come here to attend the last rites of her father.
Anil Gupta was B Commandant in Air Force posted at Hyderabad.
