For the first time in the state, people and the dealers of fair price ration shops have handed over nearly 5.10 lakh bogus ration cards to the Department of Civil Supplies. The department expects that another set of 90 thousand ration cards would be handed over to it very soon. After surrendering these ration cards, there will be a saving of Rs.24 crore to the Govt. Govt. of A.P. is spending nearly Rs.250 crore on supplying essential food grains at subsidized rates.
Mr. D.Sreedhar Babu, Minister for Civil Supplies had issued an appeal in the first week of August for surrendering bogus ration cards. He had also given a warning to take action against the bogus ration cardholders. The deadline was fixed as 31st August for surrendering the bogus ration cards. This has been extended up to 30th September 2012.
The officials of Civil supplies Department will commence checking from next month. Govt. is spending Rs.400 subsidy per white ration card every month.
