Five killed in storm in Orissa

Rourkela, May 24: At least five people including four boys were killed and 12 others injured due to lightning and tree falling as heavy rains and storm hit some parts of western Orissa this evening, police said.

Four school boys, aged between five and 11 years, of Mahipani village, 30 km from here in Sundargarh district, were killed as lightning struck when they had taken shelter under a tree to escape heavy storm and rains, the sources said.

The victims were identified as Soma Oram (eight) and his younger brother Bikash Oram (six), Suraj Oram (eight) and Mohammed Rehman (five).

Another person Nandakumar Mallick died when a branch of tree fell on him at Samasingha village in Jharsuguda district during the rain and storm, they said.
