Motihari (Bihar), Dec 22: Five persons were killed and two others critically wounded when an engine hit a jeep at an unmanned level crossing at Sitalpur in East Champaran district today amid dense fog.
The accident occurred near Nakardei on Sugauli-Raxaul section of the East Central Railway at 7:30 am when the jeep was crossing the railway track, police said.
The driver of the engine escaped from the spot.
Soon after the incident, angry locals blocked the railway track demanding adequate compensation to the bereaved families.
The injured were admitted to a nearby government hospital where their condition was stated to be critical.
