Five persons, including two women were killed and 17 injured when a Karnataka state transport bus rammed a stationary lorry from behind at nearby Pudduchattiram early this morning, police said.
The mishap occurred when the driver fell asleep and the bus veered off the road and hit the truck, they said.
The bus, carrying passengers from Bangalore, was on its way to Thanjavur when the mishap occurred.
All the injured, including a 11-year-old boy, who sustained serious injuries, have been hospitalised.
