Five held for murder

Five persons, including four rag-pickers and an auto driver were arrested for allegedly lynching to death a drunken man at Morambanda at Bapuji Nagar, Secunderabad on the intervening night of February 3 and 4.

 

According to North Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police, on receipt of a complaint from the deceased’s wife Rashida Begum on February 4 that her husband Md Shafi was found dead with blood injuries at the pavement of Bhavani Nilayam at Abhinavnagar in Padmaraonagar area, a team of police officials rushed to then spot and found the body of Md Shafi and registered a case and took up investigation.

During the investigation, it was revealed that on the night of February 3, the deceased (Md Shafi) along with his friends Rajpal Singh and Raju consumed liquor at MNR Bar at Parsigutta till 10 pm. While dispersing, Md Shafi requested his friend to drop him at Morambanda in Abhinavnagar colony as he wanted to meet his lover Zareena.

Based on the information, the cops went to Moranbanda huts in Bapujinagar and taken Zareena’s husband Md Anwar, his brother Md Nazeer, Zareena’s younger brother Md Shareef, one Damodara Annavaram and his wife Bhavani into custody and interrogated.

In a confessional statement, Damodara Annavaram said deceased Md Shafi intruded into his hut instead of Zareena’s hut by mistake and tried to sexually attack his wife Bhavani. When she screamed, he and other accused woke up and caught Md Shafi and thrashed him with sticks and iron rods. Meanwhile, Anwar, Nazeer and Shareef of adjacent huts also joined beat the deceased with broad bricks and strangulated his neck with a rope and tied the body to a door. At around at 4 am, all of them took the body in the autorickshaw and left it on the pavement of Bhavani Nilayam.

The Chilkalguda police are investigating. (NSS).
