These are five Governors, one LG newly appointed by President Ram Nath Kovind

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday approved the appointment of five Governors and one Lieutenant Governor.

“The President has been pleased to appoint Admiral (Retd.) Devendra Kumar Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM, as the LG of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in place of Jagdish Mukhi with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office,” the President’s office said in an official statement.

The statement also said that the President has approved the appointment of Brigadier (Retd.) B.D. Mishra as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Satya Pal Malik as the Governor of Bihar, Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Jagdish Mukhi as the Governor of Assam and Ganga Prasad as the Governor of Meghalaya.

Brigadier (Retd.) B.D. Mishra

He was the commander of NSG counter-hijack task force that rescued 124 passenger and crew members of an aircraft of Indian Airlines which was hijacked on 24th April 1993. During the operation, hijackers were killed. He also fought many wars including 1962 war with China and Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.

Satya Pal Malik

Mr. Satya Pal served two terms as Rajya Sabha MP and was also BJP’s national vice-president. Mr. Mailk who is LLB from Meerut University is an agriculturist. He has been appointed the governor of Bihar as the post had fallen vacant after Mr. Kovind was nominated as the BJP’s presidential candidate.

Banwarilal Purohit

In 1978, Mr. Purohit won the election of MLA from Nagpur east seat and later, in 1982, he became the minister. He is the one who revived ‘The Hitavada’, an English daily which was founded by freedom fighter Gopal Krishna Gokhale.

Jagdish Mukhi

Jagdish Mukhi served as a leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly from 1998 to 2008. He started his political career during Emergency and then won Janakpuri constituency seat for seven times.

Ganga Prasad

Ganga Prasad started his career in politics in 1994 and served as MLC for 18 years.
