New Delhi, December 21: Five persons were sentenced to life imprisonment by a court for killing the wife of a retired colonel during a robbery at the couple’s house in posh south Delhi area.
On December 13, the accused forcibly entered the house and gave blows with a knife to S Narula and their servant. The army officer was also stabbed on entering the house as he tried to raise an alarm.
“There does not seem to be any reason for misplaced sympathy with these convicts, who were armed and barged into the house of an elderly couple to commit robbery,” additional sessions judge S K Sarvaria said.
The court imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 each on convicts Mohd Shamim, Sonu, Kanhaiya, Pradeep and Kanhaiya, after finding them guilty for armed robbery with attempt to cause death. The court also held Manish Soni and Dharam Pal, the goldsmiths, guilty of receiving robbed jewellery. Besides a fine of Rs 5,000, the court sentenced the duo to nearly one month’s jail.
