Five Fish Markets in each district: Talasani

To give boost to fish production and empower those living on fisheries profession, the State government was planning to set up two Fisheries Colleges and a Training Center in the State.

Speaking at a meeting with State Sheep, Goat Development Federation corporation chairman K Rajaiah and the officials concerned, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said, “Every district will have about five Fish Markets and Collectors were asked to find out suitable places for the purpose. The minister held meeting on how to strengthen the fish production in a big way and allocation of funds in the budget.

Later, the minister told the media at the Secretariat that it was decided to promote fish production in the State in a big way by releasing fish seed in all lakes, water bodies, tanks and reservoirs, including small and medium size wherever found. “At every point of a water body, fish seed will be released into it and encourage fish production”, he said.

Taking cue from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao steps were being taken for producing fish seed in a big way. KCR launched welfare schemes for fishermen, shepherds and other communities, who should take membership in their societies. He said field level visits will be made in the city to set up model markets in the city after Sankranthi festival. The State government allotted Rs 101 crore for fisheries development while previous regimes failed to spend even Rs 1 crore out of Rs 5 crore allotted, he said. Fisheries societies will be formed to ensure membership to every fisherman’s family and see that fish production takes a significant leap, he remarked.

The State government has directed the officials to provide marketing and other facilities to the fishermen to sell the produce at the markets for better price. Soon adequate number of fish markets will come up besides encouraging fishermen to market the fish produce, he said. He said Rs 400 crore released for shepherd community and the government will allot funds in the next budget and every family should have at least three sheep. Animal Husbandry wing will soon launch 100 mobile vans. A plan is on cards to open up Vijaya Dairy outlets at tourist spots, temples and highways and the officials should make use of Gopala Mitra services, he added. (NSS)
