Eluru, April 26: Five members of a family were killed and four others injured in a ghastly mishap on the bypass road near Duggirala village this morning.
The accident occurred when the cement-laden lorry in which they were travelling overturned after ramming into a divider. Belonging to Kothapalli village of Sankhavaram mandal in East Godavari district, the deceased have been identified as P Chinna Appa Rao, P Gogulamma, P Jyothi, P Chinnari and P Rajesh.
All the deceased came to the city for livelihood. They boarded the lorry proceeding to Visakhapatnam at Vijayawada and were supposed to alight at Kattipudi to reach their village.
The bodies were sent to Eluru Government hospital for autopsy. Injured are being treated at the same hospital.
Three Town police registered a case following a complaint by P Lakshmi, one of the injured and are inquiring.
Eluru DSP Sai Sekhar, Inspector N Suryachandra Rao and Sub-Inspector Naga Murali inspected the spot.
