Five CRPF personnel injured in grenade attack in JK

Srinagar, December 18: Five CRPF personnel were injured today in a grenade attack by militants in Sopore township of Baramulla district, officials said.

Militants tossed a grenade towards the CRPF picket outside State Bank of India in the main chowk Sopore, 52 kms from here, around 11.50 AM, which exploded with a bang and left five jawans injured.

A civilian identified as Fayaz Ahmad Teli was also injured in the attack, they said.

All the injured were rushed to hospital where condition of one of the jawans was stated to be critical.

Immediately after the grenade attack, militants fired a few rounds in air while fleeing the spot, to which the CRPF personnel retaliated, the sources said, adding none was hurt in the brief firing.

CRPF reinforcements and police cordoned off the area and conducted a through search operation but no arrests were made, they said.
