Hyderabad, May 10: Cyberabad police on Monday arrested five persons who were allegedly involved in the rape of a 20-year girl in the Majidpur forest area a few days ago.
Police said two of the five accused, all auto drivers, had committed the offence while the three others intended to follow suit but failed to reach the scene of the crime.
The victim, a resident of Aliabad on the outskirts of the city, was pursuing education in the city.
Last Tuesday, she attended college and was on her way home when she failed to get a direct bus to Aliabad.
She reached Tumkunta around 9.15 p.m. and was waiting for a bus when two persons in an auto, Sai Kumar and Syed Ghouse, approached her.
“She took the auto to Aliabad but grew suspicious after the auto driver took a different route from Aliabad crossroads. She tried to get out of the vehicle but was overpowered and taken to the forest area at Majidpur where she was raped,” Shamirpet police inspector Narender Reddy said.
According to Narender Reddy, three other auto drivers, Krishna, Anand and Sriramulu were aware of the duo’s plan and followed them with an intention to rape the woman.
“They, however, lost track of their associates in the forest area and could not reach the place,” he said.
