Commissioner’s Task Force, East Zone Team, has apprehended five members of a seven-member gang that had stolen priceless gold coins, gold and silver ornaments hidden in a wall, while demolishing an old house at Doodbowli and kept treasure trove with them without informing the house owner or depositing it with the government.
The team recovered about 1,690 gram gold coins and jewellery; about 4,200 gram of silver ornaments and articles and about 490 gram of imitation silver Jewellery.
The gold and silver ornaments seized, were crafted by great artisan during the regime of Moghuls, Nizam Nawabs and others, thus having great archaeological and historical importance as per the opinion of Archaeological officers. The gold coins belong to Moghul period and some are from ancient Roman times.
The accused Mohammed Rafeeq and Mohammed Abdul Bari alias Gora, labour contractors, who took contract in October third week to demolish an old house bearing No. 19-1-658/1, Dhoodbowli, Hyderabad engaged Sara Ramulu, Mohammed Muneer, Mallesh, Ramulu and Yadaiah daily wage labourers from different ‘addas’ for the demolition.
While demolishing the house, the labourers found gold coins, gold and silver ornaments hidden in a wall in a room. The treasure consisted of gold coins (Ashrafis), gold and silver ornaments and other articles. On inquiry, it was learnt that the house was inherited by one Satish Kumar, s/o Krishna Murthy from his grandfather late Vishwanath, who was stated to have purchased them some 50 years ago from Prem Raj and Anand Raj brothers.
On credible information received on Monday afternoon by M.V.N.S.S. Kumar, PC 4439 of Commissioner’s Task Force, K. Srikanth, Inspector of Police, Commissioner’s Task Force, East Zone Team, Hyderabad and his staff under the supervision of P. Rameshaiah, Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police, apprehended the accused and recovered the properties.
The five accused are arrested in Cr. No. 145/2012 u/s 380 I.P.C. and Sec 20 of The Indian Treasure Trove Act 1878 of P.S. Kamatipura, South Zone and the case is being investigated into.
The market value of total seized material in this case is about Rs 50 lakhs and the estimated antiquity value of the same material will be about Rs 5 to 7 cores as per the Archaeology Department Officers.
