Five arrested; police claim robbery bid foiled

New Delhi, September 05: Delhi police today claimed to have foiled a robbery bid with the arrest of five persons, who were planning to loot a petrol pump owner here. Two pistols, a toy pistol and four vehicles were also recovered from the gang arrested yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said.

The arrested were identified as Jitender (27), Ravinder (28), Sandeep (28), Mahesh (27) and Vikash Kumar (27). The arrests came on a tip off that some persons were planning to rob a businessman residing in Jangpura when he will be on his way back home from his petrol pump.

“The group thought that police would be busy in overseeing Delhi University Students Union elections and they would have a free run,” Dhaliwal said. A trap was laid and they were arrested from near Jangpura flyover.

All of them were booked for planning to commit robbery. During interrogation, Dhaliwal claimed, the gang told police that they have committed robberies, kidnapping, motorcycle thefts and indulged in flesh trade.

They were also declared Proclaimed Offenders. “There were allegations that they have abducted some girls and forced them into flesh trade,” he said.
