Hyderabad, January 07: Police today claimed to have cracked the murder case of former extremist leader Patlolla Goverdhan Reddy with the arrest of a five-member gang. They have also formed special teams to nab two other ex-Naxal leaders in connection with the murder.
The murder case of Goverdhan has been solved and so far five persons – Anil, Mohammed Ahmed, Narender, K Srinivas, and M Prashant Reddy – have been arrested from different locations here, Police Commissioner A K Khan told reporters. Goverdhan, self-styled President of Revolutionary Patriotic Tigers (RPT)- a splinter group of Naxals – who was allegedly involved in over 65 criminal cases, including murder and extortion, was hacked to death here on December 28 by unidentified persons. Dispute over a 15-acre plot in Uppal area here was the main reason behind the killing. The arrested accused have confessed that a former Naxal leader, Seshanna, had engaged them to eliminate Goverdhan, the Hyderabad Police chief said.
One Chandra Reddy, who also had interest in the same plot, had approached former Naxal leaders Nayeem and Seshanna for settlement of the land dispute. Special teams have been formed to nab Nayeem and Seshanna, Khan said. Chandra will also be taken into custody for questioning, Khan added.
