New Delhi, February 17: Five Africans, including a woman, have been arrested in the national capital for allegedly providing fake passports and visas, police said Friday.
They include three Nigerians, a Kenyan and a Ghanan
“Gabriel Olawale Ajisafe, Sunny Odigie alias Sunday, Enwere Okechukwa Kelvin – from Nigeria, Caroline Cherotich from Kenya, Augustine John Kwaku Kyare from Ghana were arrested Wednesday from the Golchha theatre in Daryaganj and Ganesh Nagar,” said Ashok Chand, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Railways).
Around 120 fake passports, 300 visas, and 22,000 fake US dollars have been recovered from the accused. “The mastermind of the gang is Ajisafe, 52. Ajisafe has been residing in Delhi for 30 years,” police officials adds.
The accused were running their office from Ganesh Nagar in east Delhi for the last one year.
“They were involved in printing of counterfeit US dollars, making fake passports of African countries, fake water marks, fake Indian visas, fake residential permits, fake stamps and seals,” said Chand.
The gang was busted after a deal was stuck between the racketeers and a decoy customer for providing a fake passport with fake Indian visa and immigration stamp.
Ajisafe, who did his M. Com from Bhopal university and is pursuing Ph.D., married an Indian.
Fist time, he was arrested in 2004 for a drug-related crime and was released from Tihar Jail in 2008, said Chand.
According to Chand, the accused printed counterfeit US dollars with the help of screen printing technology.
“The printing was very good and they could also reproduce the impression of the water mark of a genuine US dollar,” added Chand.
The fake passports of African countries were provided to African nationals whose passports had either been impounded in criminal cases or they had entered India illegally through neigbouring countries.
Chand said the accused used multimedia technology software like Autocad, Corel Draw and other software and screen printing for preparing the counterfeit dollars and fake documents.
