New Delhi: Five people, including two women have been arrested on charges of drug peddling and over 140 kg of cannabis, worth Rs 1.5 crore, was seized from them in south east Delhi, the police said today.
There was information about supply of marijuana and that it involved notorious drug dealers who smuggled the contraband from Barpeta in Assam and Andhra Pradesh, into Delhi-NCR, said Romil Baaniya, DCP (south east Delhi).
Rajesh Kumar, 48, was caught smuggling 50 kg of marijuana in his car, near Tughalaqabad Metro station on November 6, the officer said.
He was put through sustained interrogation during which he disclosed information about the drug peddlers he was going to supply in south east Delhi, Baaniya said.
Based on the information, Mohammad Anwar, 44, was arrested from Jaitpur Khadar on the same day. Over 23 kg marijuna was recovered from his possession, the DCP said.
Two women — Hafiza, 29, and Bilkis, 28, — were arrested from Taimoor Nagar, two days later. Over 24 kg marijuana was recovered from Hafiza and 23 kg from Bilkis, he said.
Vinod, 28, was arrested from Subhash Camp at Badarpur on November 13, with 18.950 kg of marijuana, the officer added.
