Five more aides of slain gangster Nayeem held by Telangana police

Hyderabad: Five more main aides of gangster-turned-Naxal Mohammed Nayeemuddin, who was killed in an alleged encounter last month, have been arrested from Mahabubnagar district of Telangana, police said today.

So far 99 cases have been registered against Nayeem and his gang members in the state. During investigation, V Sanjeev Kumar, G Srinu, K Sandeep, R Chakali Krishna and K Ramesh, the main aides of Nayeem from Mahabubnagar district were arrested by the SIT, a release from the DGP office said.

“They were involved in cases of kidnap and murder, armed extortions. With the arrest of these five persons, we have so far arrested 83 people in 99 cases registered at police stations in Nalgonda, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Karimnagar, Warangal and Ranga Reddy districts,” it said.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was set up on August 10 to inquire into the death of Nayeemuddin and also to probe various criminal activities in which he and his associates were involved. The SIT control room has received 372 calls regarding the atrocities of the Nayeem gang.

According to police, most of the victims are from Bhongir area of Nalgonda, where Nayeem had many associates and relatives. Cases are being registered on the cognisable complaints received against the gang.

Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem alias Balanna (45), wanted in several cases, including murder of an IPS officer, was killed in an alleged encounter with police at Shadnagar town in Mahabubnagar district of the state on August 8.

According to police, Nayeem had formed a criminal gang and was allegedly involved in many land grabbing, extortion, kidnapping, etc, which have not been reported to police due to fear of reprisal.
