Sunderbans (WB), March 18: A fisherman fought off a Royal Bengal Tiger for half an hour today after being attacked by the animal at Chulkathi in the Sunderbans forest.
However, Narugopal Das, who was fishing in a creek at the jungle, suffered serious injuries, officials said.
Narugopal along with four others was fishing in a creek at the jungle when suddenly a big tiger jumped on him, they said.
Narugopal’s companions immediately took to their heels thinking he would be taken away to the jungle and killed, but when they saw him resisting the animal, they came back and joined the fightback, forcing the tiger to escape.
A grievously injured Narugopal was admitted to a hospital at Patharpratima. His condition is stated to be serious.
