Minister for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Talasani Srinivas Yadav today directed the officials to coordinate with Health and Food Safety to ensure supply of pure milk and related products across the State.
Stating that it was planned to call tenders on August 22 for purchase of fish and fish seed, he asked the officials to prepare proposals for supplying fish seed to village panchayats with 100 per cent subsidy and promote fish production in lakes, tanks and water bodies in a big way.
The Minister held a high-level review meeting with the officials here and asked them to see that fake or tainted milk was not sold or made available in the society as it will fetch the government a bad name. The minister asked the officials to reach a target to procure 6 lakh liters of milk a day as against the daily consumption of 3.80 lakh liters in the twin cities.
The minister’s remarks assume importance as Andhra Pradesh Government recently admitted that it was selling unprocessed milk in the twin cities. The Minister asked the officials to improve milk procurement on daily basis and take steps to strengthen the dairy activity in the State. Srinivas Yadav sought to take up wide ranging publicity through hoardings, wall paintings and others He felt the need for promotion of Vijaya Dairy Milk and its products and put up more outlets on highways, offices and elsewhere where there is demand. Proposals should be made for using Central government funded RKVY scheme to promote fish cultivation, set up retail fish markets, seed forms and steps for development.
Stating that there are 2,142 veterinary hospitals working in the State, the minister asked them to prepare a proposal to rechristen Veterinary Poly Clinics as District level Veterinary Hospitals to launch a veterinary mobile clinic for each segment. He also said to maintain the hospitals and to provide insurance cover to sheep, goats and other animals and also produce adequately the vaccines of anthrax and anti-rabbis vaccines. He also asked for steps to protect animals from diseases, increase in fodder production and safety measures for protecting the cattle. He claimed that World Animal Health Organisation of Paris has identified the States comprising cattle free from diseases and “we have to send related report to them through the Centre for furtherance”.
