The State Government on Wednesday permitted Bathini Brothers of Dhoodhbowli to distribute the fish medicine, which claims to have miraculous cures for asthma and respiratory illnesses, at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally on June 8 and 9.
The famous Bathini Brothers have been administering fish medicine free of cost for the past 163 years.
Bathini Harinath Goud said that the fish medicine is given on the day of Mrigasira Karti, which marks the onset of monsoon, according to Hindu calendar. On that day, the Bathini brothers insert the yellow herbal medicine into the mouth of a live sardine fish which is about 2 to 3 inches long. This live fish is then slipped into the throat of a patient.
“For vegetarians we prepare separate medicine with jaggery. However, vegetarians need to take the medicine for a longer period,” Harinath Goud said.
Earlier, the Bathini brothers announced a change in venue for distribution of the famous fish medicine for asthma patients has been changed from the Exhibition Grounds at Nampally to Rajendranagar opposite Agriculture University. However, the government did not give permission to host the event in the new location.
Meanwhile, the State Fisheries department has made all arrangements to supply thousands of fish lings near the Exhibition Grounds and the State Road Transport Corporation has made elaborate arrangements to ply special buses to the venue from across the State. (INN)
