First T Assembly session from Monday; Fireworks likely over farm loan issue

First session of Telangana State Assembly beginning from June 9 is likely to witness some ruckus in the House as Congress, BJP and other parties are planning to take on it on “farm loan waiver” issue. Though the TRS Government is in damage control mood and trying to allay fears of the farmers, some farmers reportedly committed suicide elsewhere in Medak and other Telangana districts. This has become a weapon for the Opposition parties, which may not hesitate to rake up the issue which already got to its peak. Panic ridden farmers, on losing hope on getting crop loans, allegedly resorting to extreme steps.
Interestingly, Congress senior leader and former minister K Jana Reddy is “Protem Speaker” of the first Telangana State Assembly. However, it is to be seen if the Congress leaders who are 21 in number in the T State Assembly will take up the issue or not.
According to the information, the Congress and other parties were vying to take up several issues, including farmers issues> Besides, they are likely to take up Polavaram Ordinance issue. The House will continue for five days and may not be that smooth as is being stated by Legislature Affairs Minister T Harish Rao.
Post General Elections, TRS came to power and the Congress, which was in power till recent days, managed to remain in the Opposition. Taking a cue from first Chief Minister and TRS supremo K Chandrasekhara Rao, Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao reviewed Assembly session issue with concerned officials to be concluded on June 13. Harish Rao said the first session of the 29th State of Telangana will be conducted in a smooth manner and members can get their turn to talk.
Elaborate arrangements have been made by officials and police department pressed in adequate forces in and around the Assembly and Council to be in session for coming five days. (NSS)
